Why Do We Need Your Support?
Imagine Litchfield without Oliver Wolcott Library.
You would have to imagine a town bereft of some of the most important and vital aspects of civilized life. And unlike many public libraries, OWL is not fully funded by tax dollars. Your donations fund more than half of its annual operating budget.
OWL is the intellectual center of our town. People of any educational level, age, background or income have equal access to program events, computers, books, films, music, art and lectures, all free of charge. And it offers a safe space to everyone in the community. OWL is a place to gather or to be quietly alone.
OWL offers librarians who can answer questions about what to read next, what to watch or listen to, where to find the information to solve a problem or address an issue, how to fill out job applications and provide computer literacy training. They are the best search engines and the defenders of intellectual freedom. Strong libraries are critical to a strong democracy.
For more than 150 years our library has been a source of knowledge, growth, education and inspiration.
That’s why we need your support.
